3 1/2 c. all purpose flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. sale
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tbsp. melted butter
1 1/2 to 2 c. milk
1 c. raisins
1 tbsp. caraway seeds (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients, reserving a little flour. Add milk, egg and butter. (I mix liquid before adding to flour mixture) Put raisins in a small bowl and add the flour. Mix to cover raisins. Mix dry and liquid together and fold in raisins.

Pour into a loaf pan or cast iron pan and let stand 20 minutes. Mix one egg and a tbsp. of water together and brush on top of bread before baking.

Bake 350º for 45 - 60 minutes. Test with a tooth pick.

Mary, I use a pan that was Bill's mothers and is about 4" x 13". You can use an ordinary loaf pan or a 10" round cast iron skillet. Don't invite Billy over when you are making this bread or you will have to make two.
