Directions:Dissolve 1 yeast cake in 1 1/2 cups of lukewarm milk. Mix in 2 cups of sifted flour. Put in large bowl & cover. Let rise till double in bulk (approx. 1 - 2 hours). Warm 1 cup of milk with 1/8 lb. butter to melt. Do not let it get too hot. It's best to have butter out & soft. If the mixture is too hot it will kill the yeast & the breads will not rise. Next put into kitchen aid mixing bowl with bread handle inserted. Add to that mixture 3 small eggs, one at a time, 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 tsp. of salt & 7 cups sifted flour. Knead well in mixer. You can mix by hand but will have to knead 5 - 10 min. Remove & put on floured surface. At this time cut into 4 equal pieces. Knead each piece a few minutes & put into greased loaf pans. Put on stove, cover & let rise till double in bulk, 3 - 4 hours.
Put together topping for the breads by mixing together with a fork until it is crumbly. Beat 1 egg & brush on breads & add topping. Bake at 350 for 25 - 30 minutes. |
