3/4 c. shortening,
3 c. sugar,
3 eggs,
Beat above together.
5 1/2 c. grated apples,
3 c. flour,
3 tsp soda,
1 tsp cinnamon,
1/2 tsp. nutmeg,
1 tsp. salt,
3/4 c. nuts.

Mix together and pour into a 9x12 greased pan.
Add: 1 1/2 c. water, 2 c. brown sugar, 2 tbl. butter and 2 tbl. flour and bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Pour over the mixture already in the 9x12 pan. Bake for 1 hr. at 300-325.
Serve hot or cold with whipped cream.
