1 2/3 c sugar
2/3 c shortening
3 eggs, beaten
2 c cake flour
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
5 T cocoa
1 1/3 c buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla.


Frosting

8 T Crisco
1 stick butter
1 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Cream with mixer and slowly add 1/2-2/3 c warm milk. Add a dash of salt and vanilla and beat well.

Cream sugar and shortening then add beaten eggs. To this add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla and blend well. Pour into 2 9 inch layer pans and bake at 350 about 30 minutes or till done. When cake is cool split layers in half horizontally. Or, bake in 3 9 inch pans and shorten baking time.

Cool, frost and chill
