5/8 c. fig nuggets
1/3 c. hot water
2 c. flour
1 3/4 c. sugar
1/3 tbsp. baking soda
1/3 tbsp. nutmeg
1/3 tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1 c. buttermilk
3 eggs
1/4 c. applesauce
1/2 c. walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix fig nuggets and hot water together. Cook in uncovered kettle, stirring occasionally until nuggets have dissolved and mixture has thickened.
Combine in flour,sugar, baking soda nutmeg, cinnamon and salt in mixer. Mix well for 1 min,then beat for 3 mins.
Add vegetable oil, buttermilk. and eggs to the dry ingredients. Beat 2 mins.
Mix applesauce and walnuts with cooked figs. Add to cake mixture only to blend.
Pour into lightly greased cake pan. Bake at 325º
for 30-35 mins.
