1 c. shortning (1/2 oleo) 1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. white sugar 1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. brown sugar 1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp vanilla 1 c. nuts (opt)
2 eggs 3 c. oatmeal
12 oz. choc. chips

Directions:

Cream shortning and sugars. Add vanilla and eggs and mix. Stir together flour, salt, and soda and add to creamed mixture. Beat well. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate dough (if time allows) until chilled. Bake at 375º for approximately 9 min.

Jean McCue brought these cookies to Spalding every summer for us. Her mom always made them, but Jean followed in her footsteps and never came empty handed. These are the only chocolate chip cookies I bake.
