1/2 c. soft shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. thick cream
2-1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. raisins cut up
2 c. figs
1/2 c. dates finely cutup
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. lemon juice

Directions:

Mix shortening, sugar, and eggs thoroughly, stir in vanilla and cream. Sift together the flour, soda & salt, and add into egg mixture. Chill. Mix together raisins, figs, dates, 1/2 c sugar, water, and lemon juice. After dough is chilled, roll very thin (1/16"). Cut into 3 inch rounds or squares and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Place a rounded teaspoonful of the filling mixture on the cut dough and fold over like a turnover, pressing edges together with a floured tine of fork or fingertips. Bake 8 - 10 minutes at 400 degrees until browned.
