3 lb. round steak, 1 inch thick
1/3 c. all purpose flour
3 tbsp. shortening
1 envelope onion soup mix
1/2 c. water
1 can cream of mushroom soup
Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle one side of meat with half of flour and pound in (using mallet or edge of heavy saucepan). Repeat for other side of meat. Cut into 6-8 serving size pieces.
Melt shortening in large skillet and brown meat slowly and thoroughly over medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
Sprinkle onion soup mix over meat. Mix water and soup; pour over meat. Cover tightly and simmer until tender (1 1/2 to 2 hours). Add a little water if needed. Remove meat. Heat the remaining gravy mixture to boiling; stirring constantly. Pour over meat.

This can be cooked in crock pot - omit browning step. Put steak, onion soup mix, water, and soup in crock pot and cook for 8-10 hours.
