Dick and Joyce met on a blind date in 1950. Dick was called back to serve in the Korean War in 1951 and he served as an Army Forward Observer on the front lines for a year. (He served in the Army during WW II.) After he returned from Korea, Dick and Joyce married July 26, 1952. We lived in Slaton, Texas for 11 years. During these years, our five children were born in the Slaton Mercy Hospital

Our family moved to 2709 25th Street, Lubbock, Texas, 79410 in 1963 and I still reside in the same home.

Dick was an artist and he died May 14, 2008. We had been married for almost 56 years. Joyce has been a teacher for 53 years.

I want to thank Angie Bell for helping us produce this cookbook. Our family has really had precious and delightful times together writing our recipes and discussing our food heritage stories. I wish every family member good health, continued successes, and much happiness on a long life voyage. I love ya'll. Joyce Cheatham
