1 pkg yeast, 1 tbsp sugar, 1/4 c warm water

1/2 c sugar; c butter; 1 tbsp salt; 2 c milk scalded; 3 eggs beaten; 4-6 cups flour.

1 egg mixed with 1 tbsp water

Directions:
Directions:
Combine yeast, 1 tbsp sugar and c water in small bowl; stir and set aside to proof.

Combine butter, salt and sugar in large bowl. Pour in scalded milk and cool enough to touch. Mix thoroughly to combine.

Add 2 c flour, mixing till smooth. Add eggs and yeast mixture, mixing till incorporated. Mix in remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Knead till smooth. Place in lightly greased bowl, turning to cover dough with oil. Allow to rise; punch down, then rise 1 more hour.

Punch down dough and separate into 3 equal portions. Smooth 2 into round loaves and put into greased round baking pans. Shape remaining dough into a cross pattern and place on loaves.

Let rise about 30 minutes, then brush with egg wash and bake 350 degrees about 30 minutes or till golden and bottom sounds hollow when tapped on.
