1/2 cup sugar (brown in a skillet)
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1 tsp butter
1/2 cup sweet cream
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 cup sour milk
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 cups flour

Heat oven to 375

Brown 1/2 cup sugar. Add remaining sugar, water and butter and bring to a boil.

Mix remaining ingredients.

Place boiling syrup in a baking dish and drop "dumplings" by heaping teaspoons on hot syrup.

Bake until dumplings are golden, about 20 minutes.
