This recipe for Sour Dough Starter, by Kathy Pitcher, is from The McCullough Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
2 cups unsifted flour 2 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon salt 1 1/2 cups water 1 tablespoon vinegar
Combine flour, sugar and salt in a stone crock. Mix well. Add water, and beat to a smooth batter. Add vinegar. Cover with cheese cloth and set in a warm place until thoroughly sour. You determine this by the yeasty smell. Usually takes about 12 hours.
