1 c dates
1 c boiling water
2 tbsp shortening
1 egg
2 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
1 c sugar
1/2 c nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates and let set until cool.
Beat together sugar, shortening, and egg. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and soda and add to sugar mixture. Stir in vanilla, chopped nuts, and date mixture. Pour into greased bread pan and bake in oven at 350º for one hour.
