Ingredients:
Ingredients:
4 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
1 cup shortening (part butter)
1 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour. Cream sugar with shortening and/or butter. Beat eggs and add to sugar and shortening/butter. Then add flour just before you knead. Add nuts (or omit, if preferred). Knead like bread, then divide into three parts and shape into three long loaves. Roll in waxed paper and let stand overnight in the refrigerator. Slice to about 1/4" thickness. Bake in slow oven. I always use nuts and all butter, if you have it.
