"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Pickled Cucumbers, by Becky Kooistra, is from The Clausing Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
Slice cucumbers and place in a bowl with 1 tsp. salt and water. Let soak for 1/2 hour, and drain. Place equal parts of vinegar and sugar in with the cucumbers and throw in some ice cubes. Let sit for another 15 mins. and serve. Delicious! (I believe Grandma said to use 1/2c. sugar and vinegar 1/2 c. per cucumber.)
What meal at grandma and grandpas house didn't get served with these? They are one of my favorites.
