Cake:

2 sticks butter -or- margarine
½ cup shortening
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups plain flour (sift - then measure)
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon lemon extract
1 tablespoon. vanilla



Icing:

1 stick butter
1 box confectioners sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon extract

Directions:
Directions:
Have all ingredients at room temperature. Cream butter or margarine & shortening together
Slowly add sugar until creamed. Add eggs (one at a time) and blend this well. Sift together all dry ingredients and add to above mixture alternately with milk (beginning & ending with flour). Add lemon juice & extracts. Pour into greased & floured tube pan. Bake at 325° for 1 hour 25 minutes or until done. No original instructions for mixing icing.
