1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 - 3 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla

1/4 cup butter
2 1/2 cups icing sugar
3-4 tbsp milk

Stir flour, baking powder and salt together. Cream butter, add sugar gradually, beating between additions. Add egg and vanilla, mix well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk until stiff enough to handle. Roll 1/2" thick on a lightly floured board; cut with an assortment of cookie cutters. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 375F for 8-10 minutes.

Butter Icing:
Cream butter. Gradually add icing sugar and milk alternately to make spreading consistency. Flavor and color as desired. Confectioner's frosting also works. Combine icing sugar and a little boiling water to get the consistency you want.
