3 c. boiling water
5 tsp. soda
1 c. butter or shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 qt. buttermilk
5 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
4 c. all bran
2 c. 40% bran flakes
2 c. shopped dates or raisins
1 c. nuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Add soda to water and let cool. Cream butter. Add sugar, eggs (one at a time), then mix in buttermilk; add flour and salt together. Add water and soda to mixture. Then, mix bran, nuts and dates in a large bowl. Store in a covered container. Put in well greased muffin tins without stirring. Bake at 375º for 20 minutes. Makes 5 dozen. Keeps 6 weeks in tightly covered container in fridge. Fill muffin tins 3/4 full. Do not eat too many!
