Mix sugar with pears and let stand for 12 hrs. or more to make syrup. When ready to cook add 1 Tbs. lemon juice for each 1/2 gallon of pears. Bring to a boil and reduce heat and let simmer at least four hours. Put in heated jars. The jars will seal with no further assistance.
