3-4 lbs beef soup bone 2 quarts cold water 1 onion quartered 1 tsp salt 2 c. tomatoes (optional) 1/4 head of cabbage chopped 1/4 c. rice or barley 5-6 carrots sliced several small potatoes 1/2 c. celery chopped
Add the bone to cold water, add onion and salt. Cook slowly for 2 hours. Then add vegetables and continue cooking for 1 more hour.
