1 large orange
boiling water
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. soda
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. melted shortening or oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, well beaten
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Squeeze orange, take juice and add enough hot water to make 1 cup liquid. Grind orange rind with enough raisins or dates to make 1 cup. Mix liquid with peel and fruit mxiture and add soda, sugar, shortening, and vanilla. Then add egg. Add sifted dry ingredients. Beat thoroughly and stir in nuts. Pour into greased pan and bake at 350º for 50 minutes.
