½ cup butter
¾ cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
food coloring
1 ½ cups flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
filling: pitted dates, nuts, chocolate chips maraschino cherry
Bonbon icing:
Mix 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
2 tablespoon cream
1 teaspoon vanilla and food coloring if desired.
Chocolate bonbon icing:
Make bonbon icing above except add 1 square unsweetened chocolate melted and use ¼ cup cream.

Mix butter, sugar, vanilla, and food coloring. Blend flour and salt in thoroughly with hand. If dough is dry add 1 to 2 tablespoons cream. Heat oven to 350 degrees. For each cookie, wrap 1 level tablespoonful dough around a filling suggested above. Bake 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet 12 to 15 minutes or until set but not brown. Cool: dip tops of cookies in Icing and decorate each cookie with topping.
Suggested Topping: chopped nuts, coconut, colored sprinkles
Makes 20 to 25 cookies
