1 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs, beaten
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp. salt
Filling:
1 pd. dates, seeded and chopped
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Filling: Combine dates, nuts, sugar and water in saucepan. Cover and simmer about 10 minutes. Stir to form smooth paste.

Dough: Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Sift together flour, soda and salt and add slowly to creamed mixture. Divide dough in half. Roll out each half on floured surface and spread with Filling. Roll up dough, wrap and chill several hours. Cut into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place on greased baking sheets and bake at 350º about 15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Makes about 5 dozen.
