3 c. dry pinto beans
1 large chopped onion
4 Tbsp brown sugar
1 c. cubed ham or hambone with some meat on it
4 Tbsp bacon fat
salt to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Soak beans in enough water to cover overnight. Next day, drain and add fresh water to cover. Add onion, brown sugar, ham, bacon fat and salt. Boil slowly for about 45 min to 1 hour, longer if beans are still too firm. Serve with cornbread.
