1/2 cup crisco
1/2 cup oleo
2 cups sugar
5 eggs separated
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp soda
2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups black walnuts'1/2 tsp cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, gradually add sugar, beat until light and fluffy and sugar is dissolved. add egg yolks beat well after each one, combine buttermilk and soda, stir till soda is dissolved, add flour to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with flour, add vanilla and walnuts beating well
beat egg whites with cream of tartar stiff, fold egg whites into batter.
pour into (2) greased and floured 9x13 inch pans
Bake @ 350 degrees for 20 minutes
Frost with cream cheese frosting
