3 C. flour
1 T. baking powder
1 T. sugar
1 t. salt
3/4 t. cream of tartar
3/4 C. Butter or 1/2 C. butter and 1/4 C. shortening
1 1/4 C. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450º. in a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. make a well in center of flour mixture and pour in buttermilk all at once. Using a fork, stir just until mixture is moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead dough be folding and gently pressing it just until dough holds together. Pat or lightly roll dough until 3/4 inches thick. Cut dough with lightly floured biscuit cutter; dip cutter in flour between cuts. place dough i inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. bake for 10-14 min. or until golden brown. Remove biscuits from baking sheet and serve warm.
