1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
3 eggs, beaten
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. liquid anise
2 tsp. almond extract
2 c. chopped almonds

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the shortening and sugar, add beaten eggs. Combine the flour, salt and baking powder. Add to shortening mixture along with the anise and vanilla. Add chopped almonds and mix well. Roll into 4 loaves. Bake 3 minutes at 375º. Remove and cut diagonally, place cookies cut side down on cookie sheet and bake for 8 minutes. Turn cookies over and bake again for 8 more minutes. Allow to cool on rack.
