CAKE:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. Red Food coloring
1 1/2 tsp. instant cocoa
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 cup flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vinegar

FROSTING:
2 TBSP flour
1 cup milk
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup butter

Directions:

CAKE:
Cream shortening and sugar together.
Mix in 2 eggs.
In a separate bowl, make a paste of food coloring and cocoa.
Add to wet mixture.
Add the salt and flour.
Mix the baking soda and vinegar and add to buttermilk. Add vanilla. Mix all together.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

FROSTING:
Cook flour and milk together until thick. Let cool.
Cream together sugar, butter and vanilla.
Combine with cooled milk/flour mixture.
Beat until like whipped cream (about 30 minutes).
