Surprise Meatballs Recipe

1 lb ground beef
1 egg, slightly beaten
cup beer
1 cups soft bread crumbs, rye
2 tbls minced onion
1 tbls butter
tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice
1 lb bacon
4 dozen shelled whole almonds

Combine egg and beer; pour over bread crumbs. Allow to stand 10 minutes.
Cook onion in butter until tender but not brown.
Combine meat, softened bread crumbs, seasonings and onion; mix well.
Shape into 1 inch balls.
Take a strip of bacon; place on a cutting board; take a knife and stretch the bacon so that 1/3 of it will go around 1 meatball and secure with a toothpick.
Insert 1 whole almond in each meatball.
Broil until bacon is crisp.
