1/2 cup poppy seed
1 cup milk
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
4 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
Filling:
1 T. cornstarch
1 1/2 cups milk
1/3 cup sugar
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla
Frosting:
1/4 cup butter
4 oz. cream cheese
1 T. milk
powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Soak poppy seed in milk for 2 hours. Cream butter and add sugar, then add milk and poppy seed. Add dry ingredients and then egg whites. Bake in 2 9-inch round pans 25 minutes at 375º.
For filling: Dissolve cornstarch in a little milk, cook over double boiler with milk until mixture thickens. Add sugar, beaten egg yolks and chopped walnuts.
For frosting: Cream butter and cream cheese. Add milk and powdered sugar.
