1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
2-21/4 c. flour
1/2 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, shortening, egg, and vanilla; add dry ingredients. Form into balls the size of walnuts; dip top of balls in water, then in additional sugar. Place on ungreased baking sheet; press down center with finger. Bake at 400-425 for 8-10 minutes.
