2 1/4 c. flour
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. baking powder
1 c. butter or margarine
1 egg
1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder together in a bowl.
With a pastry blender cut the butter into dry mixture until it is full of very fine lumps.
Measure egg. Add water to 1/4 c. line. Add the egg and vanilla and beat very well.
Fill cookie press and form on ungreased cookie sheet. Beat at 375º for 10-12 minutes.
Remove from cookie sheet at once.

These are a must at Christmas. Food coloring can be added for color. Knead it into the dough until well blended. You can put different colored dough into the press by making the dough into "logs" and placing them side by side. Colored sugar can be sprinkled on top before baking also.
