4 Tbsp Butter
2 garlic cloves
1/2 cup onions, finely chopped
1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1-3 oz can mushrooms
1-6 oz tomato paste
3-4 cups tomato juice
2-3 bay leaves
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp chili powder
cayenne pepper
Oregano
Rosemary

Directions:

Melt 4 T Butter or bacon drippings in skillet over medium low heat. Add 2 finely minced cloves garlic, celery and onions. Saute a few minutes. Add beef, chopping it. (I sprinkle garlic powder or salt instead of clove and use only half the amount of butter to saute the vegetabeles.Allow meat to cook until redness is gone.You can brown a littel by increasing heat a few minutes.

Add meat mixture to a large kettle and add the mushrooms, tomato juice, tomato paste, broken bay leaves, salt, peppers, chili powder, and sugar. Add a pinch of oregano and rosemary, as well.

Simmer with top off for 2 hours...

A Saturday tradition at our house in cool weather...We leave off the mushrooms!
