2 cloves garlic, minced
3 T. olive oil
1 2 lb. can tomatoes, crushed
1 6 oz. can tomato paste
2 C. water
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. pepper
1 T. sugar
2 tsp. oregano
1 bay leaf
¼ tsp. crushed red peppers

Sauté onions in oil. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a simmering boil. Continue to simmer while preparing meatballs.
