1 1/3 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3'4 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg, slightly beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom only
of 8 or 9 inch square pan. In large bowl, combine first 7 ingredients. Add remaining ingredients; blend well. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve slightly warm with real whip cream, ice cream,whipped cream cheese or applesauce.
