Ingredients:  
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 cup raisins
1 cup water
1 large container candied fruit
1/3 cup shortening
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp salt
Boil the above for 3 minutes
Then add 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in a small amount of hot water.
Add 2 cups flour
1tsp baking powder
1 cup nuts

Bake at 325º until done. If you want to make this in an angle food pan, you will need to double the recipe.

My great grandma had this recipe. Due to the depression, the didn't have a lot of money or extras. That's why this recipe has so many "lesses".
I personally have never made this.
