2-3/4 c. sifted flour
2 t. cream of tartar
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 c. vegetable shortening
1-1/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla

Roll in:
2 T. sugar
1 T. cinnamon
1 t. ground nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt onto wax paper. Beat shortening and sugar until light and fluffy in a large bowl with a mixer. Add egg and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture. Roll dough into small round balls then roll into sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg mixture. Place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

I used to make Snickerdoodles and Molasses Cookies for Papa Bear for Christmas when finances were tight. One day in particular, while the kids and I were visiting, he asked me if I'd like a cookie.........that a special granddaughter made them for him.
