3/4 cp. sugar
2 cp. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 cp. shortening
1 cp. milk

Topping:
2/3 cp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1 cp. walnuts or pecans

Make Topping first: Combine brown sugar and flour, cut, in butter to resemble corn meal. Add chopped nuts. Chill until ready to use. Combine and sift together first six dry ingredients. Add shortening and milk and beat 1 1/2 minutes. Add eggs and beat another 1 1/2 minutes. Pour one third of batter into greased pan (grease only bottom). Sprinkle 1/2 the topping over this batter, cover with remaining batter and sprinkle with remaining topping.

Bake 350º (9 x 9 pan) for 35-40 minutes. Serve warm
