Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

1 c. raisins
1c. water
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Simmer one cup of water and one cup of raisins over low heat until raisins are plump. Drain raisin liquid into measuring cup, add water if needed to make 1/2 c. liquid.

Cream together shortening, eggs, sugar, vanilla and raisin liquid (1/2c).
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves.
Add the flour mixture into the cream mixture, add 2 cups of oatmeal, raisins and 1/2 c. chopped nuts. Drop on ungreased cookie sheet about 2" apart. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400 or until lightly brown.
