Caramel Cookie:

3/4 C. sifted powdered sugar
3/4 C. softened butter
2 T. evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
2 C. sifted flour




Chocolate topping:

1 C. chocolate chips
1/3 C. evaporated milk
2 T. butter
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 C. sifted powdered sugar



Caramel Mixture:

28 light caramels
1/4 C. evaporated milk
1/4 C butter
1 C. powdered sugar

Caramel cookie:
Cream powdered sugar & butter, add: evaporated milk, vanilla, salt and mix. Add sifted flour to above and chill to handle. Roll out & cut out. Bake 325º 12-16 min. Let cool

Caramel Mixture:
Heat in double boiler till caramels melt, remove from heat & add: butter and powdered sugar. Beat until smooth, let cook a couple of minutes & spoon on cookies, let cool, then add chocolate mixture.

Chocolate Mixture:
Melt in double boiler chocolate chips & evaporated milk, add butter, vanilla & powdered sugar. Spoon on caramel mixture.

Personal Notes:
I always double this recipe except for the chocolate mixture, which you will have plenty for a double batch.

This is has been a family tradition for Christmas since I was born!
