2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup shortening or butter
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 t. soda
3 cups flour
1 1/2 t. cinnamon, nutmeg,cloves, and allspice
2 cups pecans or 1 1/2 cups pecans 1/2 cup walnuts and 1 lb. raisins.

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening until creamy. Add eggs. Mix well. Add soda to buttermilk, stir and add to the other mixture. Add spices with the flour and sift together into the main mixture. Stir good. Add raisins and pecans, mix well. Makes three 9 inch layers. Bake in preheated oven at 300º 35-45 min.. Let cool than ice.
