2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. crisco
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1/3 c. hot water
1 c. cold water

1 box powdered sugar
1 T. shortening
1 T. butter
1/3 c. cocoa

kaluha or coffee

Preheat oven to 350.

In a mixing bowl, cream sugar, shortening and cocoa. Add eggs and mix. Sift baking powder and flour together. Add alternately with cold water and mix well. Add soda dissolved in hot water last. Fill cupcake papers half full. Bake 20 minutes.

To Make Icing: Beat all ingredients, except kaluha, with electric mixer. Continue to beat until smooth. Use kaluha or cold coffee to thin as needed for spreading consistency. Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes.
