Directions:As I look back on my childhood I'm reminded of lots of things. Like chopping and picking cotton And looking turnip greens.
I never understood why Each leaf had to be washed separately But MaMa was so particular She never really trusted me.
Another job I didn't like That I always had to do Pick those bugs off the tater vines Why didn't MaMa give that job to Hugh.
Saturday mornings were always eventful There were lots of things to do We got to clean the Venetian blinds And wash the baseboards too.
When all the chores were finished We got cleaned up and went to town The place to shop was 2nd Avenue That where Samuel's, Warren's, Emporium & Belks were found.
Dad always bought Mom the best She dressed just like a queen From hats to high heel shoes And wearing nylons with the seams.
He always let me have A dollar for my own I'd spend it on sheet music at "Forbes" Now known as "Emiron".
The next stop was at Fuller's There were groceries they had to buy Why Saturday nights were the time For cooking burgers and fries.
Mom mixed the ingredients Forming each patty with love While Dad fried each one Occasionally giving MaMa a hug.
We sat down to eat The blessing was said No money for the hamburger buns We had to use light bread.
It's the little things remembered That I can recall When it took very little money For us to have a ball.
So always make time For your own families Love never runs out And it's the only thing that's free.
