3 c flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 c shortening at room temp (either butter or Crisco)
1 c sugar (white)
1 egg
2 Tbsp corn syrup or honey
1 tsp almond extract
1 egg - (to brush tops of cookies)
1/2 c blanched sliced almonds

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour and baking soda
Cream shortening and sugar until mixture is light and creamy. Add egg (one), corn syrup and almond extract and mix well. Blend in flour to form dough.
Make balls about 3/4" to 1" in diameter. Bake on greased cookie sheet. Press one sliced almond on top of each cookie. Place on top rack in oven. Bake at 350º for 10-14 minutes until lightly browned.
