2 pkg. dry yeast
2 c. lukewarm water
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
3 c. white flour
1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 T. soft shortening
3 c. whole wheat flour

Directions:
Directions:
In a bowl put yeast in lukewarm water, dissolve then add sugar, salt and 3 c. white flour. Set in a warm place about 1 hour. Makes a sponge. Then put 1/2 c. hot water, brown sugar and shortening in a bowl, when lukewarm add to sponge and add 3 c. whole wheat flour. Add enough white flour to make soft dough. Let rise until double in bulk, knead down. Let rise again, then make into loaves. Let rise until light. Bake 40-45 minutes at 375-400º.
