1 1/3 cups sugar
2 2/3 cups applesauce
1 cup butter
4 cups flour
3 tsp baking soda
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 small can crushed pineapple, drained
1 jar maraschino cherries, coarsely chopped
4 cups nuts
1/2 pound dates (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Grease and flour two loaf pans. Melt butter and mix with sugar and applesauce. Mix dry ingredients together. Alternately add flour mixture and fruit to applesauce mixture. Bake at 275 for two hours.

I have fond memories of making this and taking it home for Christmas shortly after I married. MaMa was so pleased that I was learning to cook.
