1 cup chopped dates
1/2 c nuts
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup sugar
1 cup Hot water
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups flour
1Tbs. cocoa
1 Tbs. vanilla
1 cup chocolate chips

Pour hot water over dates and soda. Cream shortening and sugar. Add date mixture, eggs, flour, salt, cocoa and vanilla. Beat well. Add 1/2 the choc. chips and put in greased and floured cake pan. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup choc.. chips and all of nuts on top. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes
