1 1/2 cups whole milk
3 TB butter
3 TB sugar
1 TB salt
1/2 cup water
1 pkg dry yeast

6 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Scald the milk, butter, sugar and salt. Cool until warm. Then add the yeast that has been dissolved into the water. Stir in 3 cups of the flour, knead. Knead in 3 more cups flour.
Place in a large bowl and let rise until double in size.
Punch down and knead lightly. Place in 2 greased loaf pans and let rise again.
Bake at 400º for 25 minutes.

This is Grandma Pierce's famous white bread recipe that Grandpa ate every day of his married life! Grandpa did not eat any 'store-bought- bread! As a kid, I remember going over to Grandma's and timing it just right so that I was able to eat the warm 'heel' of the freshly baked bread with butter and a sprinkle of sugar! Yum!!
