1 cake compressed yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1-1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 beaten egg
2-3/4 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir together. Add boiling water, vegetable shortening, sugar and salt. Stir. Add cold milk, vanilla and beaten egg; stir. Add flour. Knead well until smooth and elastic. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2-1/2 hours. Roll 1/2 inch thick. Cut in 1x4 inch bars. Deep fry until brown. Frost with powdered sugar frosting.
