2 cups self rising corn meal
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup bacon grease or shortening
1/1/2 cups buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450º
Mix dry ingredients with egg and buttermilk.
Put bacon grease or shortening into 8 inch iron skillet and heat to smoking. Pour into batter and beat with wooden spoon. Pour batter into hot skillet and place in oven. Bake for about 20 minutes.
